Often incorrectly referred to as a 'damp meter', this is an electronic resistance meter - Protimeter Digital Mini.

I only use this to demonstrate that timber is dry, as opposed to demonstrating that anything is 'damp', 'wet', or 'moist'...

 

If anyone  recommends remedial works based on the readings of this, beware (or call me for a second opinion).
